Chief of Department

                                                FROM THE CHIEF’S OFFICE

The Hope-Jackson Fire Co. is an all volunteer department covering the southeastern area of the Town of Scituate RI in the village of Hope .  Our business unit is led by an elected Board of Directors who serve staggered three year terms of office.  They report to the body at the monthly meeting held the first Friday of each month except June-July-and August.

The fire and EMS side is run by the Chief of Department and his officers and they also report to the body at the same meeting.  We operate 2 engines a heavy rescue, a cardiac Life Support Rescue, a Brush Truck, a duty truck, and an Incident Command/Chief’s vehicle.  We supply mutual aid to the other Town of Scituate departments and our neighboring communities and receive the same.  Our Rescue is paid on call 7 days a week between the hours of 6AM and 4PM.    Our aim is to keep you, your property, and our firefighters safe while meeting the numerous codes and regulations.  We urge you to stop by anytime and see what we do, how we do it, and the equipment we use.

As your Chief I have and will work diligently to upgrade all equipment utilized and maintain a highly respected first class department.  We will continue to work with the elected officials in town to provide even better service to our residents.   We have received many grants which enable us to purchase equipment and trucks at no cost to the taxpayers of the town. Due to the Town of Scituate not funding a new roof for our station we as volunteers had to take out a loan of over $21,000 to use on this project.  We were disappointed that in giving of our time we couldn’t get a little cooperation to replace an aging roof lat replaced by the town.  Our firefighters are qualified experienced trained professionals.  Some have chosen to relocate to municipal departments and make firefighting a career which means that we need to find new people to replace them on an ongoing basis.

We have a number of fire hydrants in our district and enjoy an ISO rating of 4/9 which we hope to upgrade this year.  After snow storms you will see us around for hours uncovering buried hydrants.   If you are adjacent to a fire hydrant please help us with the snow removal. We have an active crew off 50 people and a current class of Probationary Firefighters  working to be able to serve you as well.  We also have a fire safety and prevention program which we present to all of the schools in our district.   We hold two major functions a year our Chowder, Clam cakes and Fireworks on July 3rd  and our annual Steak Fry every year in August.  This is a great time to get to know your neighbors and also those that serve you.  WE HOPE TO SEE YOU THIS YEAR!
