Squad 3 is Hope’s newest piece of apparatus, delivered on November 6, 2000. It is a Spartan Metrostar 6-man cab-chassis powered by a 350 HP Cummins diesel coupled to a 6-speed Allison automatic transmission. With an 18-ft. walk-around heavy rescue body built by Hackney Emergency Vehicles of North Carolina mounted on it, Squad 3 provides "SPECIAL SERVICES" to the entire Town of Scituate. These services include lighting provided by a 35,000 watt PTO generator and 18,000 watts of portable and truck mounted lights and SCBA refilling of 100+ 4500 PSI bottles. The extrication of auto accident victims with full set of pre-connected Hurst tools and high-pressure air bags, and absorbents and floating containment booms to help contain spills that may occur within the Scituate Reservoir Watershed. The Squad is also equipped with a variety of other tools and equipment needed at scenes, even a computer to research information on Hazardous Materials. It is the culmination of nearly a year’s work of planning and designing by many members of the Company.
